This is my attempt to follow through with what I said towards the end of this post. Although this review mostly serves as a reference for my future self, I intend that random readers find value in this too.

October 2022 got me running again mainly because of MapMyRun’s You VS. Your Endurance Challenge. Since committing to 150 km of running + walking seemed like a lot of work when I first said yes to it, I thought it would be wise to see how September 2022 went before drafting any sort of plan.

Week 8 of 12: Q4 2022 Base Building
Goal: Stepback week #2; increase run time during run intervals

Workout: 10:00 WU / 12×1:00 uptempo + 1:00 easy jog / 6:00 CD

The 2nd stepback week for this training cycle starts today! So, I’ll be going back to the workouts from Week 5 to ease things up a bit. I’m actually quite excited for the shorter sessions after hitting the 90-minute mark during my long run last Friday.

I honestly didn’t feel like moving today that’s why I didn’t run until it was almost 8:00 PM. I guess I was still feeling the residual fatigue from Sunday’s gran fondo and Monday’s run with hills + stairs + weights.

Running log: Nov 7-13, 2022

Week 6 of 12: Q4 2022 Base Building
Goal: Build up from Week 5

Weekly summary

Total distance: 23.89 km

For the past two weeks, I noticed that the Friday long runs were the only consistent thing in my weekly logs. So, until I can finally figure out how to make my schedules more predictable, I guess the “spillover” Monday runs will be a usual thing here.

Tempo intervals: 7.03 km in 50:00 (7:07/km)
Workout: 16:00 WU / 8×1:30 uptempo + 1:30 easy jog / 10:00 CD
Post-run: Strength training

I decided to shuffle the order of the runs this week because I didn’t want this session to be the one that comes before the Tour of the Fireflies Ride on Sunday. The event route itself is about 40 km — no big deal. The thing is, we have to be at Ayala Malls Manila Bay by 6:00 AM and we’re going there by bike. So, I’ll definitely need energy for that.

You VS. Your Endurance: Challenge completed!

You VS Your Endurance 100%
Completed 150 kilometers… on the last day!

I had been feeling too mentally drained to write this post the past few days, but I’m getting to it now before the burst of inspiration goes away. Given how I announced that I subjected myself to a rather tough challenge last month, I think it’s only right to follow up on how it ended!

Last minute miles

Late October had been rainy because of Severe Tropical Storm Paeng. Automatically, I was unable to do any running or walking for 2 days. On October 30th, I was lucky enough to get some km’s in, though the day had still been pretty drizzly.

Goal: Start integrating workouts for Antipolo Fiesta Half Marathon (12K)

General run + hills: 5.32 km in 40:00 (7:32/km)
Run/walk: 40:00 in 2:30/0:30 intervals
Post-run:
• Hill repeats x 6
• Stair running x 3
Strength training

This run felt a lot easier and lighter than the last two runs. Thanks to that, I had some extra bursts of energy for the hills, stairs, and strength training afterwards.

Running log: Oct 24-30, 2022

Week 4 of 12: Q4 2022 Base Building
Goal: Stepback week #1; increase run time during run intervals

Weekly summary
Sessions: 3
Total distance: 14.30 km

Just like last week, one run spilled over to Monday (Oct 31) again. This time, it wasn’t because of poor scheduling. It was due to a storm (Severe Tropical Storm Paeng) that passed over the country from Friday to Sunday.

General run: 4.14 km in 30:00 (7:15/km)
Run/walk: 30:00 in 2:30/0:30 intervals

This is my first session for the stepback week. For this, I just reverted the total run time to that of Week 1; the difference is, I extended the run interval by 30 seconds to prepare for the next phase.
